Critical Role Season Four Unveils the Soldiers Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a wide array of heroes, and a gripping narrative featuring angels, demons, and sinister influences increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of Campaign 4 are included.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

Episode 3 ended with a dramatic pause and revealed the first table of adventurers who will separate from the main group to undertake their independent quest, distinct from the remaining groups.

The Soldiers table features the determined fighter (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), Tyranny (the cast member), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie Daymond).

Dividing the Cast

Considering 13 cast members, it was evident from the start that having everyone at the same party would be unfeasible.

This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the personal journeys before dividing into three distinct groups: Warriors, Planners, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

Per the Dungeon Master, the warrior group is for adventurers who enjoy a traditionally charged combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the hesitant healer the cleric might appear mismatched, but the events of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

To begin with, the party has a clear idea where to go next after a brutal first encounter with the enemy group.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose demise initiated the story’s plot—exploited the foes for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then paid off his debts and ran away to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, above the urban center, with Cyd hot on his heels.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a individual motive to exit Dol-Makjar:

  • The rogue, as the companion and trusted friend, seeks revenge.
  • The adventurer has experience in the northern area and warns that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and Wicander, having disobeyed his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead rescued him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party enter areas they typically wouldn’t be able to.
  • Furthermore, The fighter swore a eternal obligation to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.

Fugitives

Finally, all of them are sought by the rulers that rule the city for a multiple motives, making staying in the city no longer safe:

  • The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
  • The strong figure and Wicander turned against the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by House Halovar.

This means them little choice but to head to the remote area in pursuit of the traitor.

Upcoming Developments

Based on episode three’s Cooldown, we discover that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Explorers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can anticipate discovering which characters will be in which group in the season’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
